The Kia Soul is a great car that was first brought under production in 2009 and has seen a couple of revisions since and the new Kia Soul 2012 is the latest model and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. This particular version seems like Michael Bay took it and decided to show up and make everything bigger and better. The headlights, the fog-lights, the grill and more are all bigger and better. The inside has a new UVO entertainment system with a touch screen that also has satellite navigation and an Infinity sound system that is also voice activated.
There are different versions of this model starting with the 1.6-liter, direct-injected (GDI), four-cylinder engine that has 138 horsepower, or a 2.0-liter, Multi-port fuel injected (MPI), four cylinder engine that has 164 horsepower. A good option is that you can decide on if you want an automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission.
The Kia Soul 2012 also runs on a “active ECO” system, like the 2012 Rio, which attempts to cut down on the revs which makes the car run as efficiently as possible. The automatic transmission version of this Kia model also comes equipped with Kia’s Idle Stop and Go system which will shut the engine off when you come at a traffic light which prevents excess wear and tear on the motor. As for miles per gallon, no matter which engine you use, the rough numbers are about 27 miles per gallon for city driving and 35 miles per gallon for highway driving.
The Kia Soul is a very entertaining drive and both the power and fuel economy get a big boost out of this newer version. With its less than $14,000 price tag, it’s a very affordable car than most of the other types of car in its class and a great all around car.
